The photo of these daffodils was taken this morning. Called tête-à-tête this variety of daffs were Heather's favourite. The old daffodils that were originally planted here, many years ago, had ceased to flower, the majority of them coming up blind. I dug them out in the autumn of 2007 (on FB's instructions!) and replaced them with tête-à-tête. Heather lived to see them flower the following spring

The appointment with our consultant at the oncology clinic gave us the good news we were hoping for. The biopsy from the hemi-arthroplasty shows no trace of cancer. So we still have remission. The fax from the GP to our consultant, suggesting a recent TIA as the cause of FBees right sided weakness, prompted our oncology dude to arrange a CT head scan which was carried out before we left for home.

Since returning home FB has been very impatient at her slow recovery. In fact, recovery from the operation has been clouded by a weakness on her right side and other symptoms. We had a home visit from a GP today who seems to suspect a recent transient ischaemic attack. This might explain FBees problem concentrating and her difficulty writing of late. Not quite a fandango but mobility and confidence are improving daily, and today Heather negotiated two steps on the stairway in the hospital. FB should be returned to the wild later this week as all cash inducements have failed to persuade the staff to extend her sojourn on Ward 17.

For those of you interested in the detail of hip operations, FB has had the hemi-arthroplasty type of replacement. Heather may not be able to kneel after this type of operation but should be able to walk unaided soon. Today Heather has used a walking frame twice to get to the loo, once with the physio terrorist supervising this morning and again this evening avec moi.

Heather went down to the theatre at 11am approx and was back on an orthopaedic ward after 2.15pm. The hip operation appears to have been successful. A biopsy was taken. I discussed the outcome further with the registrar. Family can phone me for more detail. Heather should be out of bed and having physio tomorrow. Average discharge time for this type of operation is 5 days.

FBees fractured hip was CT scanned yesterday afternoon. The staff here will not commit from the results of the scan whether the fracture is cancer related or not, but this is a possibility. A hip operation will follow soon during which a bone biopsy will be taken. Meantime Heather will remain on the oncology ward.

Heather, duly collected by ambulance at sparrowfart, was admitted to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and is staying on Oncology Ward East. Visiting hours are relatively relaxed, 11am until 8pm. In the wee small hours of this Wednesday morning the earth moved for us. I kid you not. The whole of Oadby Mansion, including the bed, shook violently for a few seconds. After the breeding season was over last year, the bird box was removed to examine it's contents. It is known that at least three great tit chicks fledged successfully. The Great Spotted Woodpecker has been spotted (sorry) again. Definitely a male of the species. Today a flock of Siskins - Carduelis spinus - invaded the garden. This was a superb tick and well 'spotted' by Mike. The great spotted woodpecker, latin name Dendrocopos major, is a first sighting of the species Picidae in our garden and was feasting on the nut feeder hanging from the arch at the top of the garden. Yesterday an attack was launched on a huge Mock Orange bush in the front garden (which seems to have curled up it's toes and died as a result of inappropriate pruning over several years) with a range of weaponry and feeding the hacked remains to a bonfire in the rear garden.
